Kerambit Course

Thanks to those who made it. Had to pull tru even with the sore throat. But alhamdulilah I managed to conduct the kerambit course for silat and cultural appreciation for this year. kerambit or karambit is a unique weapon of the archipelago that spans few hundred years of history in the achipelago. i do this not for advocating violence but for the love of silat as indonesian-malay-filipino martial culture... and the fact that the drills pertaining to the weapon contains psychomotor improvement drill that can benefit brain health by building new neuropathways. I advocate drills for skills via silat. Do join me in future short courses.

At the heart of the course was also an emphasis on control, ethics, and responsibility, reminding participants that any traditional weapon is first a tool for cultivating awareness, not aggression. Each drill was framed to develop timing, bilateral coordination, and decision-making under calm pressure, qualities that translate beyond martial practice into daily life. In this way, the kerambit becomes a medium for self-mastery and cultural continuity, reinforcing that silat is not merely something we do, but something we carry and embody.

Kyusho-jitsu Street combat

Today I earned the Kyusho Jitsu street combat black belt 1st Dan. Kyushojutsu is the art of manipulating the body’s vulnerable points to create specific reactions  whether to control, disable temporarily, or open an opportunity for a follow-up technique.  It blends anatomical knowledge, nerve physiology, angle of attack, direction of pressure, and proper timing. In silat or any martial art, kyushojutsu becomes a subtle layer that makes ordinary techniques far more effective with minimal effort. Once understood, it changes the way you view movement  you stop relying on strength and start relying on structure, timing, and the opponent’s own reactions. But under Dr Sundardas he took it further by aplying the sciences of street combat self defence to the art so it is appropriate to say this is an add on to the earlier blackbelt 1st Dan in Kyushojitsu.

Khataman Wira.. sebuah cerita.

Satu Cerita Sebelum Pengijazahan

Intinya: be mindful and present.

Saya pun ikut. Dalam hati sempat membatin, apa susahnya? Tapi saya lupa, ini bukan Singapura, ini Ampel—tempat besar, sibuk, ramai orang. Bukan walk in the park. Saya sampai nyaris tersesat. Semua timed perfectly, “swee swee, very chun” kata orang kita.

Telur saya? Biasa-biasa saja. Kata beliau: “Mas Hadi, lulus. Tapi ingat, jangan gegabah. Kamu sering ngebut kerana apa sih?!” (why are you always in a rush?)

Wira Mandalika 2014 : Field Report

This year marks the first event of Wira Mandalika was held at Chakra V headquarters in Surabaya. The event encompass the various applications of Chakra V techniques, Instructors Refreshers Course, Basic Archery and the ceremonial event for Instructors/Representative after undergoing various testings and assessments. We also had guests from British kapap coming over to share their trainings.

The vigorous training coupled with the scorching heat makes the training more difficult. It was indeed a test of mental and physical endurance for myself. I have managed to lose 3 kilos from the whole duration.

The participants.

The kapap experience. Unfortunately I did not participate in the Kapap Sessions due to back pain.

I know this is not the right position. this was not the full streatch yet.

ceremony/Bai'at

Pak Bunawan showing how it is done. The best of all for me was the sharing sessions with the blacksmith (Pak Bunawan) from Bangkalan madura who took time to explain to the uninitiated on weapon forging.

Chakra V Officially Opens.

On 22nd of June 2014 Sunday, officially marks the Opening of Chakra-V Singapore. Mas Mochamed Amien handed over the Mandate Letter and certificate to Dr Hadinata Roslan as a symbol of appointment to be Chakra-V representative in Singapore. He has also completed the basic intensive training in Surabaya, (Indonesia) and Singapore.

Ceremony was witnessed by Pak Kadir of Pokoelan Bawean and Cikgu Ziyana whom respectively was held in high regards in their own Silat Schools. First batch students comprising of about 10 ladies of "the womens self defence seminar" was there to also be part of the short ceremony. Mr Ronald Ong (Ki aikido practitioner), was also present during the Seminar as an invited guest and advisor to Dr Hadinata.

Chakra-V will strive to be a non-partisan group and welcomes anyone from any race or creed. Our trainings shall not only focus on self defence but also on "well-being and safety aspects" and camaraderie built on Indonesian“silaturahmi” (Togetherness). Chakra V in Singapore is a free-lance group spearheaded by Dr Hadinata Roslan dedicated to promote Self Defence (Sports), East Javanese culture (Madura Region) and at the same time foster the friendship and family-ness between Singaporeans and Indonesians through Martial Arts. At the mean time, as a  partly-cultural organisation,  Chakra-V Singapore has no aspiration to be part of any Silat Federation and and see itself inadequate to participate in Sports-Competition silat.
